Google: Delight Features,
Holiday Banners
Google Search’s Holiday Banners are unique cultural and religious illustrations designed to set the mood of the search results page when users search for a specific holiday.
Each year, we designed 14 holiday banners, with two banners representing each major religious tradition. The holidays featured were selected based on search query volume, allowing us to prioritize the celebrations and cultural moments that were most relevant to users.
Also, each religious group would have an easter egg launched at least with one of the banners, these would be a small interactive experiences, games, or simply a delightful surprise related to the holiday.
The goal of holiday banners:
Connect with users during the major religious holidays that matter to them by celebrating alongside their community in a diverse, inclusive and equitable way.
Initial exploration with parallax animation.
Banner placement mockup.
2021 marked the first time we introduced motion to these banners. The first few launched with very simple animation loops as we established the workflow and explored how motion could enhance the experience.
By the fourth holiday banner of the year, we were ready to take the approach further, introducing our first banner with parallax effects on mobile and animated loops throughout the main scene. This marked an important step in evolving the banners from static illustrations into more dynamic and engaging experiences.
